DAVID JAMES WATERHOUSE

At a Cranston, Rhode Island YMCA Art class in the wee hours of the 1970’s my journey into painting began. Fast forward To a farm outside of Chapel Hill North Carolina circa 1993. There I fished out roofing metal from the old barn and slapped some house paint on them.
In 2001 the Pueblo scrapyard proved pivotal in furthering my development. My Saturday routine was to eat at Rita’s and hit the scrapyard and paint the day away.
In 2015 The YMCA comes into the picture again as I painted a mural for the Marshalltown Iowa YMCA titled “Barn Quilt Transformer”. I was also honored in Marshalltown, at the 2010 Linn Creek Arts Festival, as an award winning Honorable Mention Artist.
Now, not much has changed except sometimes I eat at the Millstop in Pueblo and sadly the scrapyard is no longer there. Finding my canvas has become increasingly harder and if I’m in the antique stores more and more expensive. But fuck it. When I don’t know what to do a voice says keep on painting. Maybe it’s my mom.
